Shape of the Month: Twisted Lunge

The tulips and daffodils are in full bloom, for better or worse. Thanks to the warmth that melted moisture previously bound by freezing temperatures, the last of stagnation has gone, and nature has started anew.

By now, you've probably at least thought about spring cleaning or even checked off a few chores. Spring cleaning may feel cliche, but the act of getting rid of useless possessions and decluttering your physical space has a positive impact on your wellness. This practice can help decrease stress and improve focus. Spring cleaning can also get you up and moving. As you remove dust bunnies from your home, it's important to remember to clear stagnant energy from your mind and body!

This month, we'll embody spring cleaning by practicing Twisted Lunge! This shape can: 

  • Lengthen the spine

  • Strengthen glutes

  • Improve range of motion  

  • Increase balance and focus

Twisted Lunge can also be very energizing! Whenever I feel physically or mentally sluggish, I come to this shape. I inhale deeply and visualize pulling in what supports me. Then, I exhale and twist as I visualize wringing out what no longer serves me. I repeat this process for 3 - 5 breath cycles and slowly unravel, feeling energized and light!

You'll need plenty of mental focus to play in Twisted Lunge this month. Be kind to yourself and use your props. You got this!
